We're In The Unplastic Shop — And It Means Everything

We've always believed that the smallest swaps can carry the biggest impact. That's why we're beyond thrilled to share some news that stopped us in our tracks: our furoshiki wraps have been selected for The Unplastic Shop, a deeply curated collection brought to life through a partnership between Grove Collaborative and the Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS).

This isn't just a product listing. It's a statement.

What Is The Unplastic Shop?

The Unplastic Shop is Grove Collaborative's answer to one of the most overwhelming questions facing conscious consumers today: Where do I even start? It's a tightly curated collection of plastic-free and low-waste products — each one rigorously vetted so that you don't have to do the guesswork.

What makes this collection truly special is the organization behind the curation: the Oceanic Preservation Society. If that name sounds familiar, it should. OPS is the same team behind Detox Your Life, the eye-opening Netflix documentary series that challenged millions of viewers to rethink the everyday products filling their homes, their bodies, and their oceans.

These are not people who hand out endorsements lightly.

What It Took to Get Here

The OPS team went deep. Their vetting process looked beyond surface-level claims and greenwashing buzzwords — examining materials, supply chains, packaging, and the actual end-of-life story of each product. Only items that could genuinely move the needle on plastic reduction made the cut.

Our furoshiki wraps checked every box:

  • Zero plastic in the wrap, the packaging, and the process
  • Pure cotton — natural, biodegradable, and free from synthetic materials that shed microplastics
  • Endlessly reusable — one wrap can replace hundreds of single-use bags and sheets of plastic wrap over its lifetime
  • Rooted in tradition — furoshiki is a centuries-old Japanese wrapping technique, proving that sustainable living isn't a trend, it's a return to wisdom
  • Versatile by design — from gift wrapping to grocery runs, lunch bundles to travel packing, one cloth does it all

Good for the Planet. Good for People.

Sustainability doesn't stop at the material — it runs all the way through the hands that make it.

Every furoshiki wrap is stitched by women artisans in Kabul, Afghanistan, in a workshop where we are proud to employ an all-women team. In a place where women's economic independence has faced enormous barriers, meaningful work matters deeply. When you choose one of our wraps, you're not just keeping plastic out of the ocean — you're putting income, dignity, and opportunity into the hands of a woman who stitched every seam.

The wraps themselves are made from 100% pure cotton — naturally biodegradable, free of synthetic fibers, and soft enough to use for years. No microplastics. No compromise.

This is what we mean when we say good for people and the planet. The OPS team understood that. It's part of why we're here.

Why This Partnership Matters

Grove Collaborative has long been a destination for people trying to live more intentionally. Being stocked alongside other OPS-approved brands in The Unplastic Shop puts our wraps in front of exactly the kind of community we exist for — people who are already asking the right questions and looking for products that can keep up with their values.

The Oceanic Preservation Society's involvement brings a layer of credibility and urgency that we take seriously. Their work — from the deep-sea photography that has moved world leaders to the storytelling in Detox Your Life — reminds us that this isn't abstract. The plastic we use today has a destination. Our wraps are one small but meaningful way to interrupt that journey.

Thank you to the Oceanic Preservation Society, Grove Collaborative, and everyone who has chosen to wrap differently. You're part of this.
